MATCH PREVIEW | Scholarship clash with Wakefield this Wednesday

Scholarship action returns to Stanningley this Wednesday night as Leeds Rhinos take on Wakefield Trinity in an all-Yorkshire clash, kick off 7pm.

A week on from their loss to Huddersfield Giants, Simon Brown's side look to get back to winning ways for the first time since round one when they came away with an 18-10 win over Bradford Bulls in round one. Since then Hull FC, Leigh Leopards and Huddersfield have secured wins against a young Leeds outfit, but Wednesday night presents an opportunity to put the last month behind them.

Despite on-field performances, individual displays have stood out so far during the season, notably centre Joe Gill who was a try scorer last time out against the Giants. Henry Brough continues to shine in the halves with one try and four goals in 2026, plus Lewis Kilner scored a debut try on his first outing a fortnight ago.

Wakefield have also struggled for results coming into this Wednesday's fixture as they are without a win in 2026. Opening the season with a 34-12 loss at the hands of Leigh Leopards, Trinity also fell to a loss at the hands of Huddersfield at the start of April in a high scoring 54-24 final score before Warrington added a third consecutive loss last time out in a 32-10 result.

This week's test against Leeds could see Trinity get their first win over the Rhinos since 2023 when they won 26-22 against the Rhinos at Stanningley, before gaes against Warrington and Bradford await in June.

Team News

Simon Brown makes five changes for his side's clash against Wakefield as he notably gives Dylan Duckmanton and Kazimierz Ciuraj-Davison their debuts for the club. Wade Smith returns on the wing for his fourth appearance of the year, whilst two changes on the bench sees Evan Armstrong and Archie Butler named. Besides Smith's return, Brown also rotates players into the starting pack as Lennon Kelly and Owen Mara-Jupp make their first starts against Trinity, after both coming off the bench against Huddersfield.

Top points scorer Henry Brough, leading try scorer Joe Gill, Dillon Eshun, Stan Marriott, Toby Wieland and Laike Smith retain their places in the 20-man squad as the only players to play every Scholarship game for Leeds this year.
